James is a writer from Pontypool, South Wales, and an MA Screenwriting graduate of the National Film and Television School, as well as a 2025 BAFTA Prince William Bursary recipient.

 

His comedy-drama pilot THE PONTY PIGEON was shortlisted for the BAFTA-Rocliffe New Writing Competition. A horror-comedy short he wrote, BUNNYHOOD, won the La Cinef Third Prize at the Cannes Film Festival before going on to screen at Sundance and the Edinburgh International Film Festival. His feature script DAFYDD’S GREAT CONCOCTION reached the semi-finals of the Academy Nicholl Fellowship and the final stages of the 2025 BBC Open Call.

 

More recently, he co-wrote ANGH, a drama feature directed by Theja Rio and starring Douglas Henshall. He also has a Welsh series in development with Mediapro Studios and was recently selected for BBC Voices Wales 2026.

 

Alongside his writing, he directing credits include A DEAD CANARY, his undergrad short which won the NAHEMI Creative Award, screened at Encounters and Aesthetica Film Festival, and won Best Drama at the Royal Television Society West Awards. Ffilm Cymru and BBC Wales later commissioned his experimental short YEW through their Ffolio Scheme.​
